Dallas to Host First LGBT Sports Themed Street Party

Monday, January 17th, 2011 | admin

super-street-party-promoWe are less than 20 days away from Super Bowl XLV in North Texas. The entire region is excited with all sorts of related parties and events.  The Cedar Springs Merchant Association (C.S.M.A.) has announced the first LGBT sports-themed street party on the eve of the big game.

The Cedar Springs Super Street Party presented by Bud Light will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011. The street party begins at 7 p.m. on Cedar Springs Road, between Reagan and Throckmorton Streets. The block will be closed off to traffic, but Cedar Springs Merchants will be open for business and the street closure will not affect any pedestrian traffic along the street.

The free outdoor event has already attracted quite the buzz as it will include live entertainment, food vendors, games, and, of course, plenty of Bud Light. Local LGBT sports organizations will be on-hand providing membership and general information during the event.

Along with the activities, there will be live entertainment by Chaz Marie and the Band on the Bud Light main stage. Local DJs will be playing popular hits during live entertainment breaks. Compete Magazine’s “Gay Athlete of the Year”, Michael Holtz, will emcee the evening and host a meet and greet.

“The Super Street Party is not only a perfect opportunity to spotlight Cedar Springs and all we have to offer, but also introduce the world to the most outstanding LGBT community anywhere,” said Scott Whittall, president of the C.S.M.A.

The Black Eyed Peas to Perform at Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

Monday, November 29th, 2010 | admin

The Black Eyed PeasThe NFL officially announced on Thanksgiving Day that The Black Eyed Peas will perform during the Super Bowl’s halftime show this coming February. This does not come as a shock as it has been much reported and speculated for some time now.

North Texas will host Super Bowl XLV for the first time, and it is poised to be the largest Super Bowl yet—in both attendance and viewership.

The Black Eyed Peas have won 6 Grammy awards in their 15-years of performing, and are well known for many popular singles, including “I Gotta Feeling” which we’re all too familiar with. They are releasing a brand new album titled “The Beginning” on November 30, so the Super Bowl will provide an excellent platform to help the group promote the album—not that they need much help.

Super Bowl XLV Logo Unveiled

Friday, February 5th, 2010 | admin

Super Bowl XLV North TexasDallas, along with two other North Texas cities (Arlington and Fort Worth), are playing host to the 2011 Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium. This was a huge victory for the region when the decision was announced a few years ago. It provides millions of dollars of economic impact for all of North Texas, increasing travel and tourism to Dallas.

The National Football League unveiled the North Texas Super Bowl logo on Thursday morning in Miami. The new logo was designed to prominently display the iconic Lombardi Trophy and to set a new standard in logo design for future Super Bowls.

The goal is to create an iconic symbol that can be associated with NFL’s biggest game just as one thinks of the rings of the Olympics or the blue and white star of the Dallas Cowboys. According to Mark Waller, chief marketing director for the NFL, the new Super Bowl logo will remain consistent in the future, with a modification to accommodate for the host stadium and city behind the trophy.

North Texas is a great destination for the Super Bowl fans. While the region provides many amenities, sports fans in the LGBT community who are traveling to the area will find much to see and do in Dallas.

Super Bowl XLV will be held on February 6, 2011. Stay tuned throughout the year as the “Big D” announces big events for the big game.
